As a native of Cullowhee, Miss Katy received her dance training right here at Triple Threat! She has been working, learning, and growing with TTPAA since 2006, and has taught musical theatre, ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, Spanish song and dance, and tumbling. Her love of dance began with musical theatre, and her resume has grown to include such credits as Julie Jordan in “Carousel,” Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”, and Maria in “The Sound of Music.” She was cast a dancer in the WCU production of “The Music Man” directed by Broadway star, Terrance Mann. Katy is trained in tap, jazz, ballet, musical theatre, and modern dance and was the winner of the 2006/2007 Triple Threat Award.
TTPAA has provided her with opportunities to travel and learn from several master teachers from all over the world. Since completing her Master’s in Public Affairs at WCU, Miss Katy has returned to Western as a student, continuing her training in dance and education. When not in the studio, Katy also teaches dance and movement, working as a choreographer at Smoky Mountain High School. Her choreographic credits include, “How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying,” “Oklahoma,” and “Guys and Dolls.” She has also worked as a choreographer for The Polar Express, and a local production of “High School Muscial.”
Miss Katy spent the summer of 2015 in New York City, taking classes from renowned faculty at Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, and Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre. She considers herself a “lifetime student” and is eager to share all she learns with her students. She is looking forward to another great year with all of you, and hopes to inspire and encourage TTPAA students to be their best, on and off stage.
