Mrs. Kristan Phipps has been dancing through life since she was four years old. She trained at Tonya’s Academy of Dance for 14 years in her hometown of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and danced competitively for 10 of those years!. Mrs. Kristan has studied many styles of dance including ballet, pointe, tap, lyrical, jazz, and contemporary. Kristan was also a member of the Struttin’ Hawk Dance Team of West Wilkes High School for four years, and a captain of the team for two years. During her time on the team, she competed at several national competitions traveling to Orlando, FL, New York City, NY, and even snagging a national championship title in Atlanta, GA. Her time on the team also provided several opportunities for performances at Appalachian State University basketball games, and the 2012 ACC Football Championship. Also while in high school, Kristan attended the Governor’s School of North Carolina to study modern dance.
Following her high school graduation, Kristan attended Western Carolina University, where she joined the WCU Dance Team. She was a member of the dance team for four years and a captain her senior year. During her time on the team, Kristan competed annually in Daytona, FL at the NDA national competition for college dance teams. In 2016 Kristan and her team received third place out of 21 teams for a number that was dedicated to the memory of her mother. In May of 2017, Kristan graduated from WCU with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychosocial Perspectives of Movement Science. She is now a coach of the WCU Dance Team and is excited to now be an instructor at Triple Threat Performing Arts Academy!
When Kristan is not dancing, she enjoys drinking coffee, yoga, playing with her dog Lizzie, and eating chips and salsa. She also loves spending time with her husband and attending basketball games at Cullowhee Valley School where he is the head coach of the boys’ basketball program. Kristan’s love for dance has provided her with many opportunities to grow and change as an individual, and always for the better. She hopes to continue growing and learning while doing what she loves!
