Katy is a native of Western NC, and has enjoyed teaching dance and theatre in the area for 15 years, in private studios, public schools, and community organizations. Her love of the stage began with musical theatre, leading her to train at Triple Threat Performing Arts Academy, Smoky Mountain High School and Western Carolina University. She is trained and experienced in teaching tap, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, ballet and creative movement to students of all ages, as well as adult dance and fitness classes. As a choreographer, her work has been featured in several musicals, school performance groups, dance recitals and competitions.
She has worked as a teacher and choreographer for Triple Threat, SMHS, Cherokee Central Schools, Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, Fairview Elementary School, and now works full time in Arts and Enrichment Programs at The Catamount School in Sylva. Through her work at TCS and in her graduate studies in Special Education, she is passionate about providing quality, inclusive arts education for all children.
Katy’s classes strive to provide a safe place for all to connect with music and movement, to feel supported in the process, and to challenge oneself and one another in a positive, creative space. She loves working with students in exploring their creativity, finding their voice, and helping provide the tools they need to share their art with the world. She can’t wait to dance with you!
